Create a favicon, a customised icon

A favicon is an icon for your website. You can see it at left of the address bar and in your bookmarks. A favicon permits you to add customisation and personnality to your website.

How to create a favicon for your website? Very easy and quick!

  1. Use a digital photo sofware, (as Photoshop, Gimp, Corel Draw, Paint, …) and create an image 64×64 pixels. You may also make it 32×32 pixels, or 16×16 pixels, but 64×64 is for a favicon better.
  2. Save-it as ICO or PNG format, or use this online tool. Internet Explorer 6 will only recognize ICO files.
  3. Add this between <head> and </head> in HTML :

You only have to replace mon_favicon.png by the name of your favicon file… that’s it!

Complete website W3C validation

You want your pages to be W3C valid? Well! But if you own a website that has more than 10 pages, that may become a huge task to validate them all, one by one.

I recently had to make a W3C valid website with more than 100 pages, then I found a solution. You only have to sign up (it’s free), and to add one or more websites you want to validate, then to launch the report.

Free Site Validator will detect if some of your pages are W3C invalid, but it will also find your deadlinks if you have some, which may be very useful for a big static HTML website.

To process a complete check-up may be long (depending on the number of pages), but it’s really worth. It is a good way to be totaly sure of your final work.
